According to many public opinion polls, the environment is now the number one priority for most Canadians – ahead of healthcare, education and the economy. In recent months, political debate has also been dominated by the issue of climate change.

Congratulations: 2007 IEEE Canadian Foundation Scholarship Winner Amin Behdad

Amin Behdad, recently elected Chair of the IEEE University of Toronto Student Branch, has been awarded the 2007 IEEE Canadian Foundation Scholarship for his active contribution to the IEEE.

Call for Mentors & Volunteers - ECE Student Peer Mentorship Program

The ECE Student Peer Mentorship Program is a new initiative that aims to provide first year students with help and advice in dealing with general issues that arise during the transition to university, along with the unique challenges that come with Electrical and Computer Engineering. Common issues include time and workload management, study techniques, dealing with less-than-spectacular grades, and big question of where the washrooms are.

We are currently looking for mentors for the upcoming school year. As a mentor, you are paired with another upper year student and assigned to a group of frosh.

Benefits of becoming a mentor:

- great leadership experience ("on resume")
- network and get to know new friends
- free-food throughout the year during events
- subsidy for the dinner on the Mentor Appreciation Day
- a free T-Shirt that identifies you as a mentor
- free U of T pens

Mentor responsibilities:

- maintaining contact with group of frosh (generally via email)
- responding to frosh in a timely fashion
- participate in events (with free-food)
- helping with events as you are able

RIT IEEE 7th Annual Student Design Contest

Just to remind you of some of the important details about this year's RIT IEEE Student Design Contest. The date of the contest is Saturday May 5th, 2006. The last day to register is April 1st, 2006. Cash prize awards will be presented to the top three design teams ($5000 – 1st Place, $3000 – 2nd Place, $1000 – 3rd Place). Additionally, there will be three honorable mentions prizes awarded ($500 each) for the awards of distinction for Best Presentation, Most Marketable Project and Most Innovative Project.
