Welcome to the U of T campus. We are glad you made it here, to learn and have fun.

But excitement and enthusiasm aside, we understand that the transition from high school to university can be tough, (we've been there too ya know!) and that's why we are here to help you. So, if you think you could use some pointers on how to manage your time, how to find help when you really need or even just the shortest route to the new food joint, you are more than welcomed to join the ECE Student Peer Mentorship Program as a frosh.

IEEE Student Branch is holding it's 11th Annual Wine and Cheese in BA7180, 6PM, Sept 26.

The agenda is:

1. Brief presentation about IEEE member benefits
2. IEEE undergraduate scholarships with a total amount of more than $20,000
3. Wine and Cheese Reception

Many professors are invited. Not only is this a great chance to know IEEE, but to broaden your network with the faculty.

For those who don't know, IEEE, or the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, is the world's leading professional association for the advancement of technology. Through its global membership, the IEEE is a leading authority on areas ranging from aerospace systems, computers and telecommunications to biomedical engineering, electric power and consumer electronics among others.

Members rely on the IEEE as a source of technical and professional information, resources and services. To foster an interest in the engineering profession, the IEEE also serves student members in colleges and universities around the world. Other important constituencies include prospective members and organizations that purchase IEEE products and participate in conferences or other IEEE programs.

Telecom is an important part of modern society. In 2006, estimates placed the telecommunication industry's revenue at $1.2 trillion or just under 3% of the gross world product. Each year, hundreds of U of T Engineering Grads join the telecom work force.

Kelley Kanellakis, Stategy and Operations Leader from Nortel's CTO office, is going to present Hyperconnectivity to you. Please join us to learn about this exciting phenomena and about the technology that Nortel is developing that will enable the next generation of communications.

Anyone interested in a career in the telecommunications industry should not miss this! If you are not an electrical engineer, this would be a great chance for you to get familiar with this trillion dollar industry.
